Break boxes down along their existing seams and remove loose contents. Flattened cardboard produces a more useful volume estimate than a room full of empty assembled boxes. Keep bundles small enough to move without blocking vision.
Keep the material clean and dry
Wet cardboard loses strength and can collapse when lifted. Food residue, liquid, foam, plastic film, and general trash can also change the disposal route. Separate those materials before the pickup discussion.
Choose a safe staging point
Use a dry area near the approved loading route without blocking exits, fire equipment, customer paths, or stock access. If carts are used, keep stacks below a stable height and secure them according to the site's own safety rules.
Plan around deliveries
Do not stage the pickup where vendors need to unload. Share dock hours, delivery schedules, gate rules, and the on-site contact. If the business remains open, identify the window that causes the least conflict without assuming a particular time is available.
Pickup checklist
Flatten boxes; remove contents; separate wet or contaminated material; estimate stack or cart count; confirm the loading route; note stairs or long carries; and provide the business address and contact. Ask how non-cardboard packaging should be handled before adding it.
Turn the checklist into a job brief
Pair this guide with the cardboard & packaging removal service page. Then record the address, item list, access route, and requested window in the estimate checklist.
